The phrase “the patience of Job” has always confused me. When I read Job, it seems that Job is constantly questioning his circumstances, that he is constantly complaining. But I discovered something. Patience is not necessarily sitting back silently and waiting for a desired result to come. Patience is defined as being steadfast despite difficulty or problems. Job was definitely this. For as often as he questioned why this was happening to him, he was steadfast in his belief in God. He could not understand why he had been put through so many trials, yet he did not deny God. He was steadfast in his belief, which in itself made him patient. Hopefully we can all help children to know that just because we do not understand God’s ways, it does not mean that we should deny Him. Someday, we will understand, and when we do, we will be glad to have been patient in steadfastly knowing that He is God.
