Tunisians have struggled for freedom many times throughout their history. Independence from France came on March 20, 1956. A different kind of freedom struggle began in 2010. The movement that began in Tunisia quickly spread throughout the Arab world, becoming known as the Arab Spring. The hope that Christian Tunisians felt at the beginning of the struggle has not come to bear fruit in the way they had hoped. What they hoped would bring greater religious freedom has instead brought greater persecution. Still, Christians in Tunisia endure. Our short story is set in 2010, during the initial uprisings.
