Nicolas Appert was born on November 17, 1749. In 1795, he would set out on a fourteen-year journey of experimentation that would result in the development of the first successful method of canning foods. During his life, this French chef also invented the bouillon tablet and perfected an autoclave device. We’re going to have fun unscrambling the names of twenty-five canned goods you might have in your cupboard today thanks in part to Nicolas Appert.
