If you’re new to Exploring with Jake, be sure to read the introduction.
We went to the far eastern part of India today as our Sunday School teacher told us about people who live in another of India’s states. This state is called Meghalaya, and it is surrounded by the state of Assam and the country of Bangladesh.
Meghalaya is home to a lot of mountains and animals. You can find elephants, tigers, leopards, monkeys, and all sorts of other creatures there. There is something else you can see a lot of if you live in Meghalaya—rain! It is thought to be one of the wettest places on earth! Every year, parts of Meghalaya get more than 450 inches of rain! That’s more than 39 feet or 12 meters of rain—in just one year!
There are also many Christians who live in Meghalaya. God’s Word came to the people back in the 1800s and 1900s. However, there are still people there who don’t want the Christians to worship God. They try to trick Christians into believing things that aren’t in the Bible. And there are other groups of people, like the Hajong, Rabha Koch, and Mikir who haven’t understood the Gospel yet.
Our teacher reminded us of the verses in Isaiah that talk about God’s Word coming down like rain. Isaiah 55:10-11 KJV says:
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
Just like the rain falls every year in Meghalaya and makes the crops grow and gives the people the water and food they need to live, God’s Word is coming down to people’s hearts and giving them what they need to live forever. It is giving them the story of Jesus and His love for them, and it is telling them how Jesus died and came back to life so that everyone—including every person in Meghalaya—could live forever with Him.
I’m going to pray right now that God’s Word keeps coming down to the people of Meghalaya and all of India. Will you pray with me?
“Dear God, thank You that You know exactly what we need and when we need it. You take care of the plants that grow so that we can have food to eat. You send the rain to water the plants and help them grow big and strong. And You send your Word so that everyone who reads it can learn how to live with You now and forever and ever. Please help the Hajong, Rabha Koch, Mikir, and everyone else who hasn’t heard and understood how much You love them. Please help them to understand and trust you. Thank you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
