The Draw and Explore Geography series is a great way to combine art and geography. A short description of each state is given that includes when the state became a state, its major cities and regions, and additional information such as mountains and other key features. Each is followed by an image of the state showing the cities and regions on a grid. Next, students can do one or all of the assignments that follow. They can draw half of the image in a grid that shows the left half of the picture, half of the image in a grid that shows the right half of the picture, or the entire image on an empty grid. This makes the unit completely flexible for both left-handed and right-handed students. Multiple review activities as well as an answer key are also included.

I love that you can utilize this for multiple age groups. Even a child in early elementary grades can learn to identify the shapes of the states. Then, when they are more mature, they can identify specific features of each state. It’s a resource you can keep on using for years!
