Hands-On Fun with Pattern Pieces is designed to give your kids and students hours of hands-on fun while they sharpen their critical thinking skills and put their creativity and problem-solving skills to work. Each of the three levels includes 238 puzzles to solve separated into 24 themes. Each puzzle can be made using a combination of shapes. Shapes included are a square, diamond, triangle, trapezoid, hexagon, and thin diamond.

Level One is the basic level. Students are given a picture of a desired object broken down into the shapes (pattern pieces) needed to complete it. They are also given the number of each type of shape to use. They need to identify and count those shapes and assemble them in a way that matches the picture.

Level Two is the intermediate level. Students are given the outline of a desired object and the number of each shape to use. Students need to identify and count those shapes and then determine what way they can assemble them in order to yield the desired object.

Level Three is the hardest level. Students are given the outline of a desired object and the total number of shapes to use. It is up to them to determine how many of which shapes they can use to create the desired result. Ages 5-13.

There are many ways to use this resource. One option is to print the pages and make them available to your students in a binder. They can flip to whatever theme they are interested in and dive into creating! The 24 themes include seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter), holidays (New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Earth Day, Cinco de Mayo, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas), foods (dessert foods, fruit, vegetables), lowercase alphabet letters, uppercase alphabet letters, numbers, number signs, air transportation, land transportation, water transportation, animals, mosaic patterns, and fun patterns.

Four files are included in this unit. Each level is included as a separate file for ease in printing. A fourth file includes instructions, 105 pattern pieces to print, and an answer key. The four files together contain 355 pages.
