Description
You can use the Layers of the Earth Activity Bundle to help students explore the depths of the earth to the outer edges of the atmosphere through engaging text, numerous illustrations, vocabulary review and copywork, and notebooking. See a preview of each title at the links below.
Earth’s Cycles and Systems (Learning About Science, Level 5): Just as the human body is made of systems that work together, so is the earth. This earth science unit takes a look at the parts of these systems, the earth’s spheres, including the lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. The layers of the earth, the atmosphere, and the ocean are also studied. Following this section, the earth’s cycles are explored, including the water cycle, oxygen cycle, nitrogen cycle, and carbon cycle. Various aspects of the water cycle are explored including watersheds and water purification. Numerous diagrams are given to help make these concepts accessible and easier to understand. At the end of the unit, students can review 29 vocabulary words, label several related diagrams, and enjoy a review activity. Answers keys are provided. 30 pages total.
Layers of the Earth & Atmosphere Terminology & Copywork: Help students learn the terminology of the layers of the earth and atmosphere with this copywork. Students copy 20 keywords and their definitions. Each copywork page also includes a border with geometric patterns that students can color and use to design patterns if they wish. Keywords covered are crust, mantle, asthenosphere, lithosphere, outer core, inner core, continental crust, oceanic crust, atmosphere, troposphere, stratosphere, stratopause, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, homosphere, turbopause, and heterosphere. Twenty-five pages total. Available in print and cursive handwriting versions.
Layers and Spheres of the Earth Notebooking Journal: With the Layers and Spheres of the Earth Notebooking Journal, students have the opportunity to explore the depths of the earth to the outer edges of the atmosphere. Students can record information about where the layer or sphere is located, characteristics of it, what lives there (if applicable), and more. Students investigate the inner core, outer core, mantle, moho, asthenosphere, oceanic crust, continental crust, lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, homosphere, turbopause, heterosphere, troposphere, tropopause, stratosphere, stratopause, ozone layer, mesosphere, mesopause, thermosphere, ionosphere, exosphere, magnetosphere, and protonosphere. 29 pages total.
