Creating reading passports is a fun way to chronicle your student’s progress through various reading challenges. It gives them a physical reminder of their accomplishments and a practical way to track their goals. The passports are flexible and include five pre-made challenges as well as blank pages you can use to create your own challenge or add to one that is included. You can choose the type of challenge and the maximum number of books that need to be read for each challenge. The challenges featured in this set include Countries of the World, Animals of the World, Landmarks of the World, the United States (50 states as well as territories and Washington, D.C.), and U.S. Landmarks. 21 pages total. Ages 5-13.
If you’re not familiar with reading passports, all you need to do to get started is choose a challenge and the number of books your student needs to read to complete the challenge. Using the U.S. Landmarks challenge as an example, there are sixteen passport stamps that feature places such as the Empire State Building, the Grand Canyon, etc. You decide how many books you want the challenge to include (anywhere from 1-16 or more if you use the blank stamps). Your student can find and read a book on the Empire State Building, one on the Grand Canyon, and so on, cutting and pasting the stamps to their passport as they go. It’s completely flexible and adaptable, and it is a great way to encourage kids to read books about topics they might not normally read. Printable checklists for tracking what has been completed in each challenge are also included (these are great for taking to the library!).
