Plays of Shakespeare Notebooking: These notebooking pages are designed to help students think carefully about 39 plays of Shakespeare. They can record when the play was written, how many acts it has, who the main characters are, where it takes place, what type of play it is, and if it was influenced by another work. They can also write a short summary of the plot. Five challenge questions at the end of the unit encourage students to research some of Shakespeare’s work more deeply and think critically about what they have read. Quotes From Shakespeare Notebooking: These notebooking pages are designed to help students think carefully about 38 quotes from 10 of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. They can record what play the quote is from, when the quote was said (act and scene), which character said it and to whom, the circumstances surrounding the quote, what the quote means (or restate the quote in modern language), and whether they agree with the quote or not.. Plays included are Hamlet, As You Like It, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello, and Romeo and Juliet. 41 pages total.
What if Shakespeare’s Characters Were on Social Media? challenges students to create social media profiles and posts for 65 characters from five classic plays: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, and Romeo and Juliet. They need to use their imagination and knowledge of the stories to fill out personal information about each character as well as his or her family, friends, acquaintances, jobs, education, and interests. Then they are challenged to write ten posts the character could have posted and illustrate five of them as though they were shared in image or video format. They can also draw pictures to represent friends and acquaintances. Seven pages are included for each character. The entire unit can be printed, or you can print only the characters for the play students are studying. A set of blank worksheets are also included for any character being studied that is not included. 469 pages total.
