With the Symbols of Pennsylvania Notebooking Journal, students have the opportunity to investigate 22 official and unofficial state symbols. Space is given for students to record key information and interesting facts about each one.
Official symbols included are the state flag, white-tailed deer (state mammal), ruffed grouse (state game bird), Great Dane (state dog), brook trout (state fish), Pennsylvania firefly (state insect), Cryptobranchus alleganiensis (state amphibian), eastern hemlock (state tree), mountain laurel (state flower), milk (state food/beverage), Piper J-3 Cub (state aircraft), USS Niagara (state ship), and Pennsylvania long rifle (state firearm). Unofficial symbols included are William Penn, anthracite coal, shoofly pie, Milton Hershey, Little League, Punxsutawney Phil, Groundhog Day, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and more. 25 pages total. Ages 8-13.
