July 1 is Canada Day, a national holiday in Canada! It celebrates the date in 1867 when four provinces of Canada joined together in a federation and became a dominion of Great Britain. Until 1982, Canada Day was called Dominion Day. But in 1982, something happened. Do you know what it was?
In 1982, control of Canada passed from Great Britain to Canada, making Canada a completely independent country. Dominion Day changed its name to Canada Day, and it is celebrated every year with parades, fireworks, and lots of other festivities.
We’re going to celebrate today with a matching worksheet. See if you can match the capital city to the correct Canadian territory or province. Have fun!
