Have you ever met a Sherpa? The Sherpa are a group of people who live in Nepal. They are famous for their roles as guides for mountain climbers who want to scale Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
And, that’s where the story of the Sherpa people and the story of Sir Edmund Hillary come together. Sir Edmund Hillary was born July 20, 1919, in Auckland, New Zealand. In 1953, he and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa guide, became the first men ever recorded to reach the top of Mt. Everest.
