Description
The story of the Oregon Trail, from the days of exploration in the early 1800s through the Great Migration and the decades that followed, is shared in this HUGE resource that includes coloring pages and copywork. Students can meet early explorers such as Lewis and Clark, Robert Stuart, Jedediah Smith, and William L. Sublette. They’ll meet pioneers including Jason Lee, Nathaniel Wyeth, Marcus Whitman and his wife Narcissa Whitman, Henry Spalding and his wife Eliza Spalding, Robert Newell, Joseph Meek, Thomas Fitzpatrick, John Bartleson, John Bidwell, John Fremont and his wife Jessie Fremont, and Ezra Meeker. They’ll also meet the Cayuse, Nez Perce, Sioux, Cheyenne, and Shoshone.
As they travel the Oregon Trail, they’ll pass landmarks such as Chimney Rock, Scotts Bluff, Independence Rock, Fort Bridger, Mount Hood, Fort Kearny, Fort Laramie, South Pass, and Fort Vancouver. They’ll learn about threats the pioneers faced such as dangerous weather, river crossings, and diseases such as cholera. They will also learn about life on the trail, reasons people moved West on the Oregon Trail, other key events happening in the United States at the same time, and more. Multiple maps throughout the book help connect all that students are learning.
