On December 30, 1922, the U.S.S.R. was formed. The U.S.S.R. was the largest (by area) country in the world. It stretched from the Baltic and Black seas to the Pacific Ocean. Its exact area and the borders of the lands it controlled changed during its history, but in its later days it included 15 Soviet Socialist Republics (S.S.R.) that are now independent nations. See if you can unscramble the names of these fifteen nations in today’s timeline worksheet.
