Did you know February is Library Lovers’ Month? Let’s see if we can combine reading, history, and the library today. Take a look at the following treasured children’s books:
- A Gardener’s Alphabet by Mary Azarian
- The Button Box by Margarette S. Reid
- Corduroy by Don Freeman
- Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae
- Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss
- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff
- Jamberry by Bruce Degen
- Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen
- The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper
- Lyle Lyle Crocodile by Bernard Waber
- The Mitten by Jan Brett
- Mr. Seahorse by Eric Carle
- Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr
- Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
- Polar Bear Night by Lauren Thompson
- The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter
- The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
- Valentine, Carol Carrick
- We’re Going On A Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury
- Who Hops? by Katie Davis
- Who Wants a Dragon? by James Mayhew
Have your older children go on a history hunt and discover what year each of the books was published. Have them make a list of the years they find. Then take a trip to the library. Help your younger children find as many of the books in the library as they can. Have your older children choose one or two of the dates from their research project and use the library to discover other things that were happening in those years.
