This unit introduces students to the currency of 8 nations as well as the euro while incorporating basic math word problems and problem-solving skills. Currency from New Zealand, Japan, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, and Australia is included.
Each unit begins with a brief introduction to the currency of the featured nation. It includes basic information such as how many pence it takes to equal one pound. It also includes pictures of various denominations of money for the country. Each unit then includes several problems that challenge kids to think through the problem and find the solution. Though the word problems use basic elementary math, they are a challenge because they use unfamiliar currency, requiring students to truly think about the steps needed to solve the problem.
