Description
Take notebooking a step further and incorporate paragraph (or short essay) writing with these Periods of Art History Notebooking & Writing Projects. Each section begins with a brief description of the artistic movement. The description is followed by questions to guide students as they research more about what made this movement unique and where it fits in the bigger picture of art history. At the end of each section, students can boil everything they’ve learned down into one or more paragraphs. (An example is provided at the beginning of the unit.) Then they can sketch a picture of either an artist or painting that was part of the movement if they choose to.
Thirty-three key periods of art history are included, and blank templates are provided for adding additional periods if desired. Periods of art history covered include Byzantine Art, Gothic Art, Proto Renaissance, Early Renaissance, High Renaissance, Mannerism, Northern Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Orientalism, Symbolism, Impressionism, Primitivism, Tonalism, Neo-Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Art Nouveau, Aestheticism, Fauvism, Cubism, Suprematism, De Stijl (Neoplasticism), Art Deco, Surrealism, Precisionism, Social Realism, American Regionalism, Abstract Expressionism, Op Art, and Pop Art.
