Draw and Explore Social Studies: Homes Around the World: The Draw and Explore Social Studies series is a great way to combine art and social studies. A short description of ten different types of homes from around the world is given. Each is followed by an image of the home on a grid. Next, students can do one or all of the assignments that follow. They can draw half of the image in a grid that shows the left half of the picture, half of the image in a grid that shows the right half of the picture, or the entire image on an empty grid. This makes the unit completely flexible for both left-handed and right-handed students. Ten review questions and an answer key are also included. Types of homes included are the chickee (Seminole), Dutch floating home, tukul (Ethiopia), goahti (Sami), izba (Russia), Lake Titicaca reed house (Uru), pueblo, Tudor (English), Viking longhouse, and yurt (Mongol). 31 pages total.

Musical Instruments Around the World Notebooking Journal: With the Musical Instruments Around the World Notebooking Journal, students have the opportunity to investigate 100 musical instruments from numerous countries and six continents. From the alboka, alphorn, and angklung to the xylophone, yueqin, and zaqq, students can record the instrument family, country of origin, and other facts about each instrument. Each notebooking page includes a picture of the instrument that can be colored if desired. 103 pages total. Ages 8-13.
Types of Money Around the World Notebooking Journal: With the Types of Money Around the World Notebooking Journal, students have a chance to discover 75 different kinds of money as well as a little about the history of the countries that used them. They can research and record key information about each type of money such as what country/countries it is/was used in, if it is still in use, if it is a coin or paper currency, a famous person or national symbols that has appeared on it, other interesting facts, and more. Children Around the World: Children Around the World is a geography-based unit designed to make geography and handwriting fun through traceable copywork and coloring pages. The unit looks at 51 countries from six continents. The capital of each country, along with the continent the country is found on and major maritime and political borders, are studied. The country name, the capital city, the continent name, and other key places are included in a traceable cursive font so the students can trace over them and create their own personal geography book. Each country also includes a regional map that highlights that country’s place in a region. Optional quizzes on the capitals and other facts studied are also included.
Each country is represented by a boy and a girl. The unit’s introduction explains to students that not everyone in a country dresses a certain way. It is explained to students that some of the images represent portions of a nation’s history and heritage, such as Carnival in Brazil and the Mounties in Canada, and that they can have additional fun researching why the characters in the book are dressed the way they are.
